first signs of fall

We've seen the change happening lately.

A few weeks ago Nancy and I went camping up near Red Feather Lakes. It was cooler than I had expected, and the leaves showed then what has become increasingly evident here, Fall is arriving.

This photo is from a little fishing trip I took with the kids last week. We went to Flatiron Reservoir which is west of Loveland. We caught several trout. Emma again caught the biggest one. Here's the video: 9Mb AVI | 300Kb WMV

We have also begun to see some snow. The high mountains are pretty well covered. But Wednesday morning, the foothills just west of town had a dusting.

I do love the change of seasons here. I love the fall.

***UPDATE - Sunday 9/26/2004

Traditionally in Northern Colorado, you can head to the Rockies the last week of September or the first week in October and see the aspen in all their glory. They change fast, and don't last long once they turn gold, orange, or the occassional red.

When we went camping several weeks ago, we saw whole stands of aspen already a rich yellow. Fearing we would miss the full effect because we had seen change so early, we went up this afternoon to see what we could see. In 4 hours, we covered 180 miles, and I managed to take only a few really good shots (we had an engagement this evening, so we didn't have the luxury of taking our time) I wish I had taken more photos, the valleys near Sand Creek Pass and Bull Mountain were perfect. The day was perfect. Here are a few of the better shots (I need a polarized lens)
